Engine troubleshooting
Missing CLIs, failed sign-in, model errors, and path mismatches.
“CLI not found”
- Open a terminal and run the CLI yourself.
- Confirm it is an executable, not only a shell alias.
- Restart OpenFolks after installation.
- Set the exact path in Settings → Engines if detection still fails.
Desktop apps often inherit a different environment than a terminal. Common on Windows shortcuts, macOS Finder launches, and Linux app menus.
Authentication failures
Run the provider's own status or login command in a terminal. OpenFolks uses that session. Installing the binary is not enough.
A 401 Unauthorized from api.openai.com means the launched Codex process did not receive valid authentication. Check codex login status, sign in again if needed, then restart OpenFolks. Do not paste a ChatGPT password into OpenFolks.
A selected model fails
- Refresh the picker after updating the CLI.
- Choose a model that account actually has.
- Confirm a custom wrapper forwards the model argument and keeps the provider's expected environment.
- Try the CLI directly with the same model to separate an account problem from a Desk problem.
Windows
Use a real .exe, .cmd, or resolvable command path in the engine override. A CLI installed only in WSL is not a native Windows executable unless you add an explicit bridge.
