Computers

This computer

Let a supported folk control the local desktop through the bundled CUA boundary.

Local control is off by default. The Electron main process owns the bundled CUA driver so operating-system permissions belong to OpenFolks, not a background helper.

macOS

The packaged app can request Accessibility and Screen Recording. After granting either, restart the control session when prompted so macOS applies the grant.

Ubuntu

Ubuntu 24.04 GNOME host control is temporarily disabled while the real-seat input-safety blocker in issue #345 is resolved. Packaged builds keep the pinned runtime for review, but OpenFolks does not start it and clears leftover opt-ins. Chat, screen preview, Cloud, and Local VM remain available. Do not start the bundled driver by hand.

Safety

  • Enabling local control globally does not assign it to a folk.
  • Choose This computer for each folk that should receive it.
  • Risky actions still go through approvals.
  • Missing permissions, unexpected binaries, unsupported desktop sessions, and failed health checks fail closed.
